As a community-based environmental movement, Bundanoon on Tap aims to inspire people to consider how they buy, consume and dispose of resources, with the view to having a lighter footprint on the fragile ecosystem and the natural resources of our planet.
“The truth is: the natural world is changing. And we are totally dependent on that world. It provides our food, water and air. It is the most precious thing we have and we need to defend it.”
— Sir David Attenborough
Our Beginning
In 2009 the small town of Bundanoon in the NSW Southern Highlands became the world’s first single-use bottled water free town.
Our business community committed to being socially responsible by refusing to sell what comes free from a tap. Free water refill stations were installed throughout the village. At the time, this small act was revolutionary and our story became news in every corner of the world.
“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.”
— Margaret Mead
Where we’re heading
When it was launched in September 2009, the Bundy on Tap initiative was a unique and revolutionary campaign. It was about encouraging people to reduce the consumption of single-use plastic bottles.
Today, the alarming fact is that humans are producing and consuming plastic at a greater rate than ever before. And supported by irrefutable scientific evidence, we are aware that our planet is warming at an unnaturally rapid rate.
Bundanoon on Tap is now more than just a campaign against single-use plastic bottles. Bundanoon on Tap aims to help everyone make changes, small and large, in their consumption habits, so that we can make our town – and our world – a better place.
“We have forgotten how to be good guests, how to walk lightly on the earth as its other creatures do.”
— BARBARA WARD
“The greatest threat to our planet is the belief that someone else will save it.”
– Robert Swan
